Combining the Internet communications technology of the TCP/IP-based global GRIC network with the powerful AltaVista Tunnel solutions, for workgroups or single employees, will allow companies to protect corporate assets while increasing productivity by permitting secure access. Tunneling allows information to be securely passed between a server and another computer over a public network as if the two were connected by a single physical wire.

If a company requires data encryption and VPN (Virtual Private Network) capability for traffic between a roaming user and the company's Intranet, the tunnel software installed on a server, referred to as a "tunnel server," is needed in order to terminate the encrypted tunnel. In addition,

tunnel client software has to be installed at the other end of the encrypted tunnel, such as the remote user's laptop or PC. With this solution, GRIC member ISPs and telcos will be able to supply their corporate clients with a complete secure Intranet access solution that will be transparent to the user.

This roaming solution is available on the following platforms: Digital UNIX 4.0, Windows NT on Intel and Windows NT on Alpha. It delivers a highly flexible firewall-independent solution. It can run on a system with the DEC AltaVista Firewall or on a separate system behind a firewall that protects it from the Internet. Digital will work with AimQuest to empower Digital's field personnel with access into their corporate networks via the GRIC global access points in Q3 1997.

Potential customers can see this technology in action at Digital's ISP Works ISP Solution Centers in the U.S. (in Nashua, NH) and in other parts of the world.

Corporate customers or GRIC members interested in providing their customers with this secure solution should contact AimQuest Corporation, phone: (408) 955-1920, fax: (408) 955-1968 or email: info@aimquest.com.
